The London night bus can be an unnerving experience. Anyone who has dared miss the last tube will have had the choice of either:
- forking out for a wallet-emptying cab ride home
or
- taking a big gulp as well as a big risk before climbing aboard a night bus.
Your fellow passengers are likely to be the type with traces of blood in their alcohol rather than the other way around, and the atmosphere can get a little on the rowdy side. If you're stone cold sober, you'll wish you weren't.
But now there's a new kind of bus plying the streets of an evening, and it's almost as scary as a trip on a night bus. Nicknamed the "
fright bus" and painted a foreboding black, the "'orrible omnibus" takes you on a creepy journey through haunted London.
The custom designed bus, complete with decorative lamps and window curtains, is, according to the tour organisers, the only surviving bus of the 'Necropolis Bus Company'. This company operated a private funeral bus service in the 1800s, carrying the coffin and mourners through the streets of London to the resting place of the deceased.
Just over 40 years ago a terrible fire ravaged the bus depot, and only one vehicle survived. It is this bus that will take you on your tour of haunted London.
