Get Well Soon! My (un)Brilliant Career as a Nurse - Book Review
Recently I attended the writing festival "Reality Bytes' held over 4 days in Cooroy. I attended various workshops and talks and I must admit, it was far better than I'd anticipated.
One such talk was by a young nurse, Kristy Chambers who wrote a book about her experiences over a 7 year period. As she was being introduced the lady commented 'Kristy is a great writer' ....
'Hmmm' , as my eyes glazed over and I subsequently yawned, 'everyone says that about every new author'. But as I sat there and listened to Kristy recalling her experiences something within me stirred. Having a nursing back ground myself, I suddenly found myself nodding in agreement. I could relate to this woman.
As I wanted to support this first time author, I bought her book (of course) and when I climbed into bed later that night and began to read it, I laughed out loud on page 2. From that moment on, I couldn't put it down.
It's an excellent read as Kristy takes us on a journey along the various wards and quirky troubled souls that she has to deal with. If you have had any prior experience as a nurse, you will certainly be nodding your head in agreement as it's quirky, funny, self effacing.
And don't worry, if you have never set foot in a hospital and know nothing about nurses, I'm sure you will still enjoy it and if nothing else - it comes with a light hearted warning to 'stay healthy' and definitely
out of a hospital bed.
