When drive through bottle stores were introduced to Australia in the 1950s, life became a little easier for us all. In the 70s and 80s, the addition of a drive through at most fast food outlets meant that one could get a six pack and a burger and fries without even leaving the car. But when it comes to groceries, most of us are still using our legs like chumps.
For all those times you're nearly home when you realise you forget to get the milk, allow me to introduce
Georgious General Store. The first, and quite possibly the only, one of its kind in Brisbane, this establishment is your standard suburban corner store – with a twist. Couldn't be bothered getting out of the car? Then enter the Georious Drive Thru, place your order at the window, and let someone else run around gathering your groceries.
Georgiou's General Store is a family run business that has operated for more than fifty years. The Drive Thru was introduced in 1999. The business also sells coffee and bait and fishing hooks.
Of course, unless you live in the area, driving all the way out to Wynnum to get bread probably defeats the argument for efficiency. Don't let that stop you though – this is one of those things that all Brisbanites should experience at least once.
