The Interrogated Landscape exhibition has art that examines and celebrates our rural landscape. The exhibition is on at the Samstag Gallery and comes with an accompanying publication. The artist may be largely unknown to many but is now having a long overdue retrospective. Geoff Wilson has a lifetime of work as an artist on display. He has had a long career as a painter, teacher, and mentor to many other artists. His vision on landscape painting and influence can been seen in the work of many other artists including Lesley Redgate of Willunga.

Geoff Wilson started his art life doing watercolours and pen and ink. Moving into an abstract period in the 60's before his real coming of age with modernist landscape works. The exhibition features over seventy works, including paintings, works on paper and sketchbooks.

He is an accomplished artist who has not sought the limelight. This retrospective giving the public a rare opportunity to see his collected works. His modernist landscapes hone in on the hills and vales of the Fleurieu Peninsula. Many of his views are very familiar places. The road to Willunga, the sweeping Willunga hills and ranges and Noarlunga vistas. There is an element of clinical dissection to his landscapes, which replicates Jeffrey Smart's urban industrial style, but is compensated by the refreshing use of colour and many shades of green and gold. The Australian rural landscape is always centre stage for Geoff Wilson, not always the calendar shots but those with a gritty edge; a steel frame building on the coastline, long country roads and corrugated iron relics, cranes and old dying homesteads. Geoff Wilson found his place here, his art and style realised. This art is the history of our rural South Australia on canvas.

The exhibition has been curated by Barry Pearce, the former head curator of Australian art at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. Pearce has collated works from private and public collections. The exhibition showcases the artist and his love of the South Australian landscape. The landscape interrogated, exposed and given a lasting legacy.
