Exploring the cultural sights & activities in Sydney (and telling you about them)

The Gazebo Wine Garden is as pretty as it's name is: it is a beautiful, high class, artsy-looking bar/lunchroom with an incredible collection of wines. If you're up for a comfortable, stylish afternoon with your friends, visit Gazebo, in Sydney's Kings Cross.

Gazebo is easily accessible via public transport. Kings Cross station is only 5 minutes away: get off at Darlinghurst Road go up the road to Maclay Street. Once you see the police station on your right-hand side, turn right and Gazebo will be right in front of you.

The lunchroom is both indoor and outdoor: it has patio (the 'gazebo') that continues inside - and really, you don't even notice that it's partly outside, which is quite mesmerizing – and in the inside you'll find a long massive bar with an incredible wine cellar. Nothing about this place is unoriginal, every object in it is thought of esthetically, from the massive long tables to the hundreds of fresh roses on the wall.

Gazebo serves a great variety of wine, over 50 different wines, and serves lunches and diners as well. They serve what they call 'bread and bites', small cute and refined dishes that goes well along the wine; 3-course meals and they even have a party style menu for groups.

Last Sunday (Juli 31st, 2011) my friend held her birthday lunch at Gazebo. At 4pm everyone was served a special shot on the house, poured into a tiny wineglass! Also during that day, all of a sudden, the Gazebo personnel rang small cowbells and walked randomly up to at least 4 tables where they handed over a great bottle of wine, on the house again.

I was informed that the Gazebo also holds weekly specials, like wine tastings (Wednesdays), the 'Girls Picnic' (which seems very popular, it's every Saturday and Sunday, Gazebo provides a basket of wines, bubbles and bites for your picnic) and the 'Cheese Tray', where Australian and European cheese are offered (every Friday).

In short, Gazebo is a special little place in Sydney that is worth visiting, whether it is for the relaxed atmosphere, the beautiful esthetics or the great variety in wine and food. You won't be disappointed!
