Melbourne may have the Spring Racing Carnival, but let’s face it, the weather is much nicer in Sydney this time of year. The weather warming up can only mean one thing –
festival times! (lyric warning)
Kicking off the festival calendar in Sydney is
Garden Music. Hosted in the gardens of
Government House in the heart of the city, festival goers can spend an afternoon dancing, enjoying a picnic, or improving their croquet.
The line-up is an eclectic mix of Australian artists from a range of genres. There’s
The Audreys an
ARIA awarding winning blues and roots outfit.
Bridezilla, a 5-piece indie band who wowed crowds at
All Tomorrow’s Parties earlier in the year.
Dan Sultan and his 7 piece band will take to the stage with unique dance moves and country/rockabilly tunes. While
Unkle Ho, cofounder of Aussie Hip-Hop outfit
The Herd, will mix up some great tunes that should see you up and moving.
Other highlights of the day include an opportunity to explore inside Government House. Be sure to take a peek at their exceptional art collections including the current exhibition by
Studio ARTES. If you prefer to create your own, easels with free canvases will be scattered throughout the garden.
For those preferring sport over culture, expert croquet coach Max Donati will be on hand to teach you the finer points of the game. Or grab your mates and a shuttlecock for a game of badminton.
Be sure to check out the garden gazebo where Gramophone Man will be playing hits from his collection of vintage records on a brass gramophone. The gazebo is also where you can catch up with the festivals performers as they drop in to spin their favourite tracks from the 1920s!
Tickets are
on-sale now from HHT, and any remaining will be available on the day. Tickets are $35 (general admission), $25 (concession and HHT members), $95 (family). Children 12 and under are free.
