First day of Spring and I am already well into my annual Spring Cleaning routine.

I started in the bedroom, sorting through the bookshelves, and am working my way out. The kitchen cupboards are currently a work in progress. Yet again the stockpile of plastic containers is truly amazing. With the warmer days I have even started to repot and fertilise the pot plants and hanging baskets.

Interesting question to ponder: is Spring Cleaning a Nature or a Nurture behaviour ?

I'm excited about all this decluttering, tidying, and in some cases, rearranging of furniture.

Why?

The Worlds Biggest Garage Sale Trail is scheduled for Saturday, 24th of October. This means that I am going to have a go at offloading my fifty excess books, and half a dozen vases that have been gathering dust over the years, and perhaps make a little money on the side.

This is the 5th year of this event which is all about REUSE and SUSTAINABILITY.

Two years ago all the households in the street participated in this event, which was pretty easy as there are only seven houses all up.

It proved a fun and successful day, in that it also provided an opportunity to chat and catch up with the folk that we generally just wave too as we drive past each day.

I think the Buyers enjoyed this too as each of the households were selling different wares. One neighbour had tables of children's clothes for sale, another heaps of pot plants and old china, and I was as pleased as punch to clear the garage of 22 fishing rods.

One of the neighbours volunteers for the Queensland Cancer Council so we decided as a small community for each household to donate a portion of funds raised on the day for Cancer Research.

What a WIN / WIN situation!

- We all cleared some of our excess belongings to people who could use them.
- We made a few dollars for ourselves as well as a worthy charity.
- We had a fun day catching up with the neighbours.
- We even saved on landfill space.

What Sellers need to do is Register on the Seller Dashboard at www.garagesaletrail.com.au which will allow hundreds of thousands of Buyers to view some of their wares, as well as follow the garage sale trail in their area.

The first 2,500 sellers who register their garage sale by September 25th will also receive a free seller pack containing posters and flyers to promote your sale.

There is still plenty of time to start that Spring cleaning!
