Do you prefer your cinema to be a little obscure? Hate paying to see a movie? Then it's time to acquaint yourself with the Gallery of Modern Art Cinematheque (18 Montague Road, South Brisbane).

The mission of the GoMA Cinematheque, according to their website, is to, 'collect, conserve, present and interpret film and screen culture.' Their collections includes animation and live action works by past, present, national and international filmmakers. The gallery's program usually involves pieces that are thematically linked to the current visual arts displays in the museum.

The GoMA cinematheque has two cinemas that seat up to 300 people. Their facilities are available to hire for presentations, screenings and video productions.

If you'd rather see something significant and thought provoking than a Hollywood blockbuster, make a date with the Gallery of Modern Art Cinematheque.
