Gallery M: a feast for the senses
Marion Cultural Centre is home to Gallery M; Signatures Café; Marion Library and the Domain Theatre.

Inside the Marion Cultural Centre - Signatures Cafe and Gallery M on Friday evening, 8th February 2013.

Marion Cultural Centre is at 287 Diagonal Road, Oaklands Park (adjacent to Marion Shopping Centre and SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre ).

To get from Adelaide's CBD to this magnificent hub of community activity will take approximately 30 minutes by car (parking is free and readily available) or by public transport (travel by train to Oaklands Railway Station or by bus to the Marion Centre Interchange).

This article aims to introduce you to the wonders of Gallery M.

Gallery M is managed by the Red House Group Inc (an artist managed non-profit organisation of approximately 300 local members) on behalf of the City of Marion.

Entry to Gallery M and its exhibitions is free. Open 7 days a week (Monday to Friday 10am-4pm; Saturday 10am-4pm and Sunday 1pm-4pm; closed on public holidays).

The gallery's gift shop has a beautiful and extensive range of hand crafted items by local artists which can be purchased at extremely reasonable prices.

Gallery M's featured exhibitions for 8 February 2013 – 3 March 2013 are:

Pastel Strokes

Pastel Artists of South Australia (PASA) are exhibiting a wide variety of pastel artworks. Prizes will be awarded in 5 categories (landscape; seascape; still life; figurative/animals; contemporary pastel/including mixed, conte, charcoal).

The Boys by Kerryn Hocking is $750 and my choice for Figurative/Animals category

Most of the art is for sale and a range of greeting cards of the artists exhibited work are being sold for $5 each (an affordable option which enables you to take home your favourite artwork).

Exhibiting PASA artists will be in Gallery M on Sunday, 17 February 2013 from 2pm to meet and greet guests.

From the Gallery Walls of the Imagination

I was literally stumped for words with regards to how I could best describe Uta Mooney's collaborative exhibition, From the Gallery Walls of the Imagination.

The Writer - priced at $2,900 & Goodbye - priced at $2,500

Uta's art is combined with writer, Glenn Stenson's words. The exhibition was launched with Uta present and via Skype with Glenn Stenson (as he was elsewhere at the time). Guests were able to interact with both Uta and Glenn!

At the opening night was artist - Uta Mooney and via Skype was writer of Cabin 108 - Glenn Stenson

Uta's art is very much a collage of mixed media and draws the viewer in, layer by layer. Each piece of art is descriptively matched with excerpts of purpose written text from Glenn's novel Cabin 108.

Exposed - priced at $2,500

Uta Mooney will be in Gallery M on Sunday, 17th February 2013 from 1.30pm, to demonstrate her painting techniques and meet visitors.

A very involving feast for the senses!

Jenny I have visited the gallery a number of times but never knew about the 'special' on the opening day. What a bonus - must make it to one of those next time.

Ashamed to say I've never been to the Cultural Centre but you've certainly inspired me to stop in, the exhibitions sound and look great.

Glenn Stenson was on Skype from the other side of the world, in Seattle USA, at the time of the opening of 'From The Gallery Walls Of The Imagination'.

Thank you, Jenny, for spreading the word with kind of ones of your own. It has been a blast melding Uta's art form with mine. Hope to meet more of you on Sunday at the demo.

It's well worth it - there's usually a new exhibition every month. The next exhibition opens on Friday evening of 8th March. The good thing about attending the openings of Gallery M's exhibitions, guests receive a glass of wine from Patritti Wines (a local winery) & nibbles!

I hope you get to experience these exhibitions, Uta's is quite unique! The Domain Theatre has some good acts on too (The Borderers played there Friday night).

You deserve success Uta - your art and Glenn's prose (is this the right terminology?) is a pleasure to view (hope you get plenty of red dots)!!
