G20 Cultural Celebrations: Top Free Events

With the G20 rapidly approaching, it's not just about the world leaders. It is time to watch Brisbane come alive in a flurry of cultural festivities. With a fabulous line up of FREE events starting 24 October until 16 November there is sure to be something to spark the interest of everybody. Jazz, hip hop, classical, pop, folk, blues, choral and rock – there's something to get the toes tapping for all music lovers.

24 days of free music
Get your toes tapping to the beat of free music over the next 3 weeks. Spanning Brisbane city and suburbs, Queensland musicians are on display. Download the full program here.

A few highlights to note:

Catch Emma Louise at the Hi-Fi - Brisbane singer-songwriter and international super-star, Emma Louise plays a FREE concert at the Hi-Fi, West End. I have seen Emma play live before and she is terrific. Emma Louise tells beautiful stories through her stunning songs.



The World According to Brass: Take in the stunning surrounds of the Brisbane Riverstage while some of Australia's best talent accompany James Morrison for a one-night only musical feast.

This free event features a range of Brisbane artists including;
Brisbane Brass, Brisbane Excelsior Band, South Brisbane Federal Band, The Queensland Highlanders, Queensland Irish Association Pipe Band, The University of Queensland Pipe Band and City of Brisbane Pipe Band. It will also feature The Queensland Choir and Queensland Conservatorium's Con Artists with Elly Hoyt and guest soloists Chrislyn Hamilton, Jessie Johnson and Marcel Ringuet.



FREE Queensland Ballet Performance: Coppélia Following the storyline of E.T.A. Hoffmann's, Coppélia, this performance will showcase the budding romance between two villagers, Franz and Swanilda, alongside the curious workings of their eccentric neighbour Dr Coppélius. Infatuated at the sight of the Doctor's mysterious 'daughter' Franz sneaks into Dr Coppélius' workshop and delightful mayhem follows.

Enjoy this stunning classical rendition while listening to the skilled musicians of the Queensland's Chamber Orchestra. This is a must see for all ages.



Colour Me Brisbane, will transform our city scape into a vivid rainbow of colour after dark. The ultimate in interactive light and projection installations - Brisbane's key and iconic buildings will transform into a luminous light exhibition.

You can make it the ultimate hands-on experience, and have a go at one of the Paint Your City touchscreen kiosks. Then, watch your creative flair light up Brisbane.
