About Bianca
Bianca is a young enthusiastic entrepreneur who has worked with animals for five years. Before Bianca she opened her dog grooming business she did pet-sitting and pet walking. You can tell she is an animal person by the way she greeted my dog Lily and I with a big smile.

Every dog parents knows that their babies are cute but it's nice to be told. We immediately felt welcomed when we walked into Bianca's dog salon because she recognised the immense beauty of my Moodle. I'm not surprised she gets most of the work from word of mouth.



Bianca runs Funky Fur, a name that led to much discussion about what Lily would come home looking like. Funky Fur is a dog grooming salon located in Mernda, catering for all dog breeds. Bianca's professional backyard business has a lot of repeat customers and is building because of the developing area. Funky Fur is set amongst beautiful bushland and parks – the perfect location for her clientele. Bianca suggests if dogs are anxious to take them for a walk first.



Bella, a cute white Maltese, has just had a bath and clipping and is wandering around happily. She looks like she is about to star in a movie with her cute little bows, but she's a real diva; she will not cooperate for a photo! Bianca says as soon as the dogs get their bows they know they're going home. The bows are all part of the 'attention to detail' service and Bianca's trademark although sometimes she uses other accessories like scarves in winter.



Most people drop off their dogs and come back later. Small dogs take approximately 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 hours, longer haired and bigger dogs can take 2 1/2 to 3 hours. The Mernda Village is just around the corner and ideal for coffee or a snack.



Today Lily is getting a full groom, which includes a full clip, nails, bath, hand hair dry (no cage drying) and hand scissored head and feet. All this is just $60. From my experience this is at the cheaper end of the scale of grooming. Bianca is happy to give a no obligation quote on the phone but is better able to make a more accurate estimate when she sees the dog. Actual prices are based on each pet's coat type, condition, behavior and specific requirements.


Lily was not too keen for me to watch her being bathed (who does?) but she loved her head massage (I'm with her on that one). My smelly little dog came out smelling and looking like a rose. I think her hot pink bows with purple gems set off her face.



About the Products
Bianca only uses the highest quality Australian products that are sulphar and paraben free. She likes to use something gentle. If they dry out her hands she won't use them because they're likely to try out the dog's coats.



Bianca carefully chooses products to suit each individual dog. There is no extra charge for hypoallergenic, medicated or whitening shampoos. This ensures your pet leaves with a healthy well-groomed coat.

Each pet also receives a gentle blueberry facial scrub. I like the sound of that! There'd be queues at the door if she offered matching facial scrubs for pets and their owners.



About the Services
Services include full grooms, hand scissored or breed specific clips, bath and tidy, de-sheds, matt removal and more. For in between grooms or short coated breeds, a bath and tidy includes light brush out, warm hydrobath, hand dried and tidying feet, sanitary areas and hair from eyes. Bella was in for one today.

Bianca also offers free familiarisation sessions for puppies where she spends 10 minutes getting the pup used to equipment. The playful experience ends with a treat. Later on when you need the grooming to be done your pup (and its owner) won't be stressed by the experience. I wish my parents had used this technique for me with the dentist.
