Fright Nights at Thorpe Park

Event: 21/10/2011 - 31/10/2011
Thorpe Park has really come on leaps and bounds in recent years. Gone are the days of playing second fiddle to Chessington World of Adventures and Alton Towers; after much investment and development, Thorpe Park now features more than 25 attractions, many of which will have your heart racing faster than Jensen Button on rocket-powered roller skates.

With Halloween fast approaching, the theme park's organisers are gearing up for Thorpe Park's tenth annual Fright Nights season, which comprises - as the park's website describes it - "a brand new blood-curdling attraction….awesome rides in the dark…five terrifying live action horror mazes….plus much, much more." I'm quivering just at the thought of it.

The live action horror mazes are not for the faint-hearted - newly unleashed Experiment 10 take you on a journey through "a chilling and disturbing government test lab where the latest project, Experiment 10, has taken a sinister twist".

The names alone of the four other mazes are enough to make the hair on the back of your neck stand up: The Curse, The Asylum, SAW Alive and Se7en.

Rides in daylight can be scary enough - Thorpe Park's Stealth ride, for example, launches you from zero to 80mph in less than two seconds to a height of 205ft - but Fright Nights' Awesome Rides in the Dark sees the lights switched off, allowing your imagination to take you to places you never knew existed.

Besides the rides, comedy magicians Barry and Stuart will be in attendance for the second year in a row, sharing with audiences their unique brand of "dark trickery".

As Fright Nights is celebrating its tenth year, organisers are laying on lots of surprises throughout the park - hopefully they won't all make you jump.

The Fright Nights season runs from 21st October right up to and including Halloween on the 31st. As you can imagine, these special evenings are popular and tickets sell fast. Booking online will help you save 30 over percent.

Tickets for under 12s are available, though parents will want to think carefully about whether it's really a good idea to take their little ones to a night that's promising to be "more twisted than ever". Best take a good look at the website first.
