Bacon ice cream and cocktails in Fremantle, anyone?
What's not to love about bacon? You can cook it as crispy as you like, frazzle it to within an inch of its life and enjoy it crunchy, eat it with HP sauce in a sandwich, add it to potato salad, eat it for breakfast, lunch or dinner…. This highly versatile part of the piggie rightly deserves its own celebration at the Fremantle Bacon Festival Saturday, 22nd April and Sunday, 23rd April at the Esplanade Hotel.
This festival will well and truly celebrate everything bacon, from bacon ice cream and bacon cocktails, to a feast of creative bacon dishes and bacon cook-offs by professionals and amateurs – did I mention there will be bacon?
Of course, all that salty swine requires something refreshing to wash it down, and there will be a number of pop up bars offering beer and other drinks. If you do eat too much, settle into the food coma zone and relax with a few tunes from some local, live music while all that bacon digests and you can avoid being rolled out of the place.
If like me, you have junior bacon-fiends to entertain, you can bring them along and let them enjoy the dedicated kids area. Children under 15 are free to enter too! Just don't mention the relationship between bacon and Peppa Pig, please.
Tickets are $15 for adults for a one-day pass to either the Saturday or Sunday festival, or $25 for a two-day pass for both days, just in case you didn't fall into a bacon coma the first time around.
