Work near the
Royal Festival Hall? Chained to your desk at lunchtime? Too busy to take a stroll outside of the office? Well, unless you really are quite literally chained to your desk (that would be illegal, wouldn't it?), then there's no excuse not to go for a walk during your lunch hour, thereby subjecting your retinas to something other than the sight of a flickering computer screen, and your cochleas to something other than the monotonous sound of a whirring photocopier.
Even if you're not working and simply find yourself in the vicinity of the venue on a Friday lunchtime, then consider getting along to enjoy a
free musical performance.
The season runs from 1st October until 3rd December (except 19th Nov) and offers a range of musical genres, so you could go every week and experience something completely different.
It kicks off with
Pocket Caravan, a band led by British musician/composer/producer
Peter Michaels that plays under the intriguing tagline of "musical journeys from the Balkans to Brazil".
Other acts include
Threeway (jazz and blues),
Clara Rodriguez (folk and world),
The Joni Mitchell Project (rock and pop),
Acoustic Earth (jazz and blues),
guitarist Manus Noble and pianist Nestor Bayona Piffare,
Trish Clowes' Tangent (jazz and blues), and
Mishaped Pearls
(folk and world).
The
final show features a double bill from the
Park Lane Group, supporters of talented young musicians. First up is the St. James Quintet, followed by a duo with Jessie Ann Richardson on cello and Lynn Carter on piano.
Performances start at 1pm.
