These days there are quite a few opportunities to go ice skating outdoors in London around Christmas time - eg.
Somerset House and the
Natural History Museum. The problem is, you usually have to pay for the pleasure, which could involve spending half the time on your backside.
If you find the tickets prices for those events slightly off-putting then make sure you get along to The Scoop on the weekend of the 9th of December where the folks behind More London, who operate the venue, have managed to organise a
free ice-skating opportunity for visitors. Imagine that, skating fun alongside the Thames in the shadow of the majestic Tower Bridge.
Supermarket giant Tesco have teamed up with
More London to help bring the free event to
The Scoop - and even better, its store in the More London shopping and business complex will be handing out free refreshments to visitors over the weekend, including mince pies, mulled wine and hot chocolate.
To claim a free drink from the store, be sure to pick up a special Tesco cup at the ice rink beforehand.
To make the weekend even more special, there'll also be a seasonal market taking place, bringing together more than 30 specially selected traders from across the capital.
The market will be open from 10am to 6pm daily. There'll be lots of goods to choose from, such as jewellery, fashion, books, leather goods, glassware, craft gifts, and seasonal food and drink.
String and brass quartets will be providing a seasonal soundtrack over the weekend, so make a space in your diary now for what should be a fun and memorable event for the whole family.
