Free Fencing Classes

Published June 14th 2010
Trade a fork for a sword during your lunch break this summer.

Fridays in June, Manhattan Fencing Center is offering free fencing classes in Bryant Park for fencers of all levels.

Don full fighting regalia and learn the intellectual sport - dubbed physical chess - on the New York Public Library's outdoor terrace.

Fencing novices welcome, though registration is required in order to partake in the fun. Call (212) 382-2255 or e-mail info@manhattanfencing.com to sign up for a class.

If Fridays aren't free, or you want more after a taste of the sport, you can always take classes at the center, located at 225 W. 39th St. between Seventh and Eighth avenues. Beginner classes are offered three times a week for adults. Four classes are $100, with complimentary equipment offered for the first set. Now the only question is - foil or saber?
