Weekends, school holidays, and beyond
This coming April is a bit unusual with the Easter long weekend smack bang in the middle of the school holiday instead of the beginning as usual. Nevertheless, don't let that stop us from having fun, even if your budget doesn't allow you to do that long weekend getaway you've always wanted. Not to worry. There are plenty to do in and around Perth, so just enjoy the full house, the kids, and take them out somehere close within our beloved Perth and surrounds.
Northbridge Piazza, cnr Lake & James Sts, Northbridge
They used to have Piazzarama, now they have Funday Sunday. Whatever it's called though, this is what it is: A Sunday afternoon of free entertainment for the kids followed by a movie. This April session has lots to do with food, glorious food: There's a Pizza Party Truck, the City Farm Pot a Plant workshop, and the Fresh Fruit Kabob workshop. The movie following that has of course something to do with yummy stuff to eat too: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. It's the 1971 version with Gene Wilder, not Johny Depp as Mr. Wonka.
Buddha's Birthday & Multicultural Festival is organised by Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple in celebration of the birth of Sakyamuni Buddha, the founder of Buddhism. We can learn and experience new things while having fun in the activities that will suit the occasion, such as: traditional ceremonies (e.g. Bathing of the Buddha), meditation, tea & incense appreciation, Chinese calligraphy, children's art & craft, cooking demo, children's rides, multicultural performances including Chinese Lion & Dragon Dance, and to cap it all there will be fireworks display.
Sunflower Sunday 9 Apr, 10am-2pm Point Walter Recreation Centre, cnr Stock Rd & Page St, Bicton
Sunflower Sunday is an annual community event hosted by Therapy Focus, one of Australia's providers of professional therapy services. The kids will, of course, be the focus for the day, and they are invited to join in the fun through entertainment such as silent disco, video game vault, virtual reality, fire truck rides, face painting, flying fox, and more.
What are your plans for the Easter long weekend? If you don't have one yet, spare one day at least to visit our beautiful port town of Fremantle, where the streets will be ablaze with buskers, street performers, circus people, and funny men and women. Just as an example to whet your appetite, 'What's Next' (pictured above, left) is a group of young blokes with high versatility and relentless energy who in their performance give you the power to decide what's next. whereas 'Hell's Cockies' (pictured above, right) are two hilarious self-confessed bogan bikies in cockies costumes who will wander around Freo disturbing innocent bystanders. There are of course more and really too many to enumerate here, so check out their full program here.
MiLi Markets were born in 2014 to create a way of promoting small businesses over the quieter winter months. On this one Sunday in April, they are not only holding a usual pop-up market, but they combine it with a family day where there will be those extra things which make it more interesting for the whole family to attend. There will be market stalls, street food, live music, kids activities such as bouncy castle, and more.
