Excellent service and attention to detail are some of the things patrons will notice first about
France-Soir, a delightful French bistro near the corner of Punt Rd, South Yarra. That's after clocking the scripted neon signs in the window, of course, which complement the character of a restaurant that manages to be all class, without pretensions.
The dining area is rather cosy given the limitations of the space, but don't let that deter you! The intimate setting makes it easy to spy on your fellow diners - check out their selections and it may be a little easier to choose your own from a menu of classic dishes. If you find you're still gripped by the fear of food envy, try the freshly opened oysters or escargot with garlic butter, the half roasted duckling with orange sauce and the
mousse au chocolat - you won't be disappointed.
Fresh Oysters
Entree price range is $13 - $35, mains are $33 - $45 and homemade desserts are $13.50 so come ready to indulge. You'll find the specials written on the wall mirror - they can be a little bit hard to decipher but the wait staff will relay them to you (repeatedly if you need them to).
It's best to
book ahead as the restaurant can be very busy. Avoid two hour windows if you can - you'll need most of that time just to read the wine list, which is incredibly comprehensive, and the last thing you want to do is rush. Dining at France-Soir is an experience to relish.
