The Botanic Gardens is always a great place for a weekend outing. For a couple of weeks in November there is a special reason for visiting.
Every Saturday for ten years a group of artists has met at the Gardens to capture the beauty and diversity of its plants. From Saturday 2nd November to Sunday 17th you can view an exhibition of their work to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the
Botanical Art Group .
Australia has a great history of botanical artists illustrating our plant species in precise detail, such as John Lewin, the first professional artist after European settlement in New South Wales. At this exhibition you will see both traditional and contemporary depictions in a range of media including watercolour, coloured pencil and scraperboard.
If you buy an artwork, you can have the satisfaction of knowing that you have contributed to the upkeep of our wonderful Gardens, as the artists are donating part of the proceeds to the Friends of the Botanic Gardens Adelaide.
If you find yourself in love with botanical art, take the take the chance to talk to the artists about joining them in their Saturday sessions, or in the occasional workshops they run.You will also find these details on the
Botanical Art Group website .
A beautiful flower or plant will wither and die eventually. Beautiful botanical art is a permanent reminder of nature's artfulness.
