Just one of the many fabulous things to happen at Sydney's Bondi Beach is
Flickerfest. Metres from the sun, sand and surf lies the Bondi Pavillion which hosts Flickerfest in its' an open-air movie theatre for several days in January each year.
The Bondi Pavillion's round outdoor theatre is the perfect place to gaze at the screen and the stars above whilst soaking in a balmy Sydney evening. Of the many things one can do with a Sydney city summer, this is one of the best.
Food and alcohol are available and we suggest you bring a blanket and an umbrella just in case the weather turns. Otherwise, just enjoy one of Australia's perfect settings to take in some exceptional films from around the world.
Flickerfest is a film festival held every year outdoors under the stars at Bondi Beach and is a showcase for a collection of International short films selected by an experienced judging panel. The festival begins in Bondi and then tours across Australia stopping at over 20 venues.
Founded in 1991 in the inner Sydney suburb of Balmain, the festival has grown to become Australia's only competitive International Short Film Festival. In fact the festival has been selected by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science as a qualifying festival for the Best Short film and Best Animation categories of the Academy Awards since 2003!
This year there were over 1500 entries into the festival is each of the 3 competitive categories; International, Australian and Documentary. Of those entries 45 Australian films, 39 International films and 13 documentaries have been selected for screening. The filmmakers are competing for several prestigious awards.
Each session is rated 15 and is approximately 1 ½ hours long. Tickets are on sale and are available
