Tropfest 2014 is over and was a great success. A large and enthusiastic crowd gathered at the Cale Road Car Park to enjoy a show by singer/songwriter Katy Steele before the screening.
The late light of summer delayed the start a trifle, but the crowd remained cheerful and merry before the 'big picture' - really the sixteen finalists.
The sole Western Australian entry was Fixed a completely local production. The directorial/production team are Codey Wilson, Burleigh Smith and Rob Viney, and all the actors - Amara Harnisch as little Jemimah, Paul Treasure, Alitia Harnisch, Jamie Smith, Samantha Mitchell and Marian Byrne, not to forget Daisy as Tilly, the dog.
I have covered the plot elsewhere , but I have to tell you that the finished product, although it didn't win, was superb - smooth, professional and well-acted with not a second wasted. Ostensibly a light and fluffy story, there is an underlying theme of personal freedom and choice subtly explored. Very highly recommended. If you would like to watch it yourself it may be viewed on YouTube here . I hope we will see more from this team again and soon.
