So the holiday season is nearly upon us and children everywhere are going crazy with excitement, while parents are going crazy with fear. Yes, holiday time means the family getting together, which often results in some unwanted discussions, Uncle Terry drinking too much and Grandma pulling out all the embarrassing stories known to mankind. Many people wonder how they can avoid the heartache of the family get together, without the messy arguments that could follow; here are five sure fire ways to make sure that you miss Uncle Terry's no pants dance.

5. Sick Trick
Yes, the classic old excuse you used to use at school, chuck a sickie. Especially handy if you have a child or significant other to shift the blame too. Make sure you come up with something good enough to warrant missing the get together, but not bad enough to get the unwanted visit the next day. Faking a flu is good, a bout of food poisoning is another gem, faking your own death may be taking it too far.

4. The Boss Calls
Bad Boss = happiness? It can be so if you have the unwanted meeting planned. Perfect excuse with next to no risk of aftershocks. Need a job where such a thing could happen, and it is always great to have previous horror boss stories to tell the family. One for the actors.

3. Incidental Accident
Not one for the believer in karma. Traffic accident, breaking down, blown tire, etc. it all is good enough to provide you with a one way ticket to freedom. Make sure you leave it late enough that no one will be able to pick you up.

2. Adios Amigos
The holiday option is a great way to get out if a get together is planned in advance. Pick somewhere close enough that no one will want to see pictures, but not so close that people will find out you weren't actually there.

1. What Get Together?
Dim the lights, close the blinds, turn the phone off and get ready for a day in hiding. Great if you want to have some fun and have family who are likely to come by and check on you. Probably the best as it allows for breathing room and an extended time to plan a reason.

So plan your reason and man the battle stations because soldiers, the battle will be intense. If you have any other favourite excuses comment below, and if you use one of these comment and let us know how it went.
