May in Brisbane is truly a golden time so you don't want to be sitting on the couch at home wasting all that glorious sunshine and crisp autumn air. Get out amongst it at the following five fabulous festivals with something for everyone.

1. Anywhere Theatre Festival
**Thursday 4 to Sunday 21 May 2017
Venues all over Brisbane**

This annual celebration of theatre, comedy, dance and opera, but not as you would usually recognise them, is currently lighting up some of Brisbane's most unlikely performance venues — gyms, car parks, laneways, pubs, a reservoir and even stairwells. It's an independent performance festival that offers something for all audiences and takes the concept of 'quirky' to a new level.

Check the full program here but a couple of festival highlights are:

Somewhere Else But Now , Aaron Austin-Glen's exploration of 'connectedness, social media and his year-long bicycle journey through 20 countries. Suburban Michelton provides the venue.
When: Friday 12th May & Saturday 13th May at 7:30pm. Tickets: $18. Book online here .

Fusion presented by the popular Flipside Circus combines contemporary and traditional circus with comedy, food and music. At Flipside Circus, 117 Mina Parade, Alderley
When: Friday 12 to Sunday 14 May and Friday 19 to Saturday 20 May.
Tickets: Range up to $22. Children under 5 are free. Book online here .
2. Ipswich Festival
**Thursday 4 to Sunday 14 May 2017
Various venues across Ipswich**

The annual Ipswich Festival this year presents a huge range of art, theatre, music, exhibitions and family-friendly events, and many are free to attend. The very best of Ipswich will be on show all across the city. Some of the festival's signature events have already happened but there are plenty more highlights to look forward to. These include Proms at St Pauls on Friday 12 May, Global Fiesta on Saturday 13 May, and Jazz, Wine and Blues on Sunday 14 May.
The full program of events is available on the website here , where you can also follow the links to book for your favourite event (where necessary).
3. Fish Lane Festival
**Saturday 13 May from 12 noon to 10pm
Fish Lane, South Brisbane**

This fabulous foodie festival made a spectacular debut last year and is back again in 2017 for a much anticipated encore performance, and we can't wait. It's certainly not all about fish. A range of local restaurants will be serving up some of their signature dishes and there will be plenty of musical entertainment as well as craft beer and cider, and entry is FREE.
Read all about what's on offer here and check the Facebook page here for updates and news.
4. Paniyiri Greek Festival
**Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 May
Musgrave Park, South Melbourne**

Paniyiri is Brisbane's annual celebration of all things Greek. And, what's not to celebrate? This year the festival is 41 years old and getting stronger with celebrity appearances, honey puff eating contest, a grape-stomping copmpetition, cultural performances, load of Greek food favourites and lots more.

Read all about the festival here . Buy tickets online here (adults $12, pensioners $5, children under 13 free, 2-day adult pass $20) and check the website here or Facebook page here for further details.
5. Maroon Festival
**Sunday 28 May to Wednesday 31 May
South Bank
Free Entry**

The very first Maroon Festival, celebrating everything that's great about being a Queenslander (especially Queensland's dominance of the annual State of Origin rugby league series), will colour South Bank maroon in the lead up to Game One of the 2017 series on Wednesday 31 May.

The event kicks off with a huge FREE Fan Day on Sunday 28 May, complete with sporting celebrities, panel discussions, sporting activities for the kids and the River Parade that will see this year's Queensland side journeying down Brisbane River and then greeting fans at South Bank.

Tastes of Queensland Food Stalls, as well as the Waterfront Garden Bar, will run throughout the festival, and Game 1 of this year's series will be shown on the Big Screen.
