Teenagers love hanging out over the holidays. Especially at shopping centres. But that usually means blob out food court food: hamburgers, chips and cans of Coke. And then if you drive them to the shops that also means they are not getting much exercise.
There is a better alternative. Fitness First gyms, which are often located in shopping centres or in nearby shopping precincts, run a free program for teens aged 14-18 during school holidays.
The program has the apt acronym FFIT (Fitness First Initiative for Teens).
You do need to give this a little bit of thought before the holidays as teenagers need to book in for a short induction session.
After that they get a free Membership Card and they can rock up during any future school holidays as well. At least they can, while they are still at school. They just need to have comfortable shoes and gym appropriate clothes.
Although most teenagers love the whole dressing for the gym gig. Gym gear is definitely some of the coolest around.
Plus it's a pretty cool place to be and they get to listen to their own music while they exercise.
And the best thing of all is that they still get to hang out. But in a healthy way. They can sit and natter with their friends in the sauna or perhaps do some laps of the pool. Or they might join in some of the fitness classes such as body pump yoga, pilates or cycling.
To become a FFIT Holidays participant you need to bring in a pre-exercise form that is signed by your parent or guardian. You can collect a form from your local club reception or you can download it. HERE
FFIT Opening Times are usually during the day between 10:30am-3pm but check with your local Fitness First gym.
