Graffiti murals around Toowoomba in 2015 were a huge success with art appreciators and the media. The extensive skate park on Hume Street is the target for spray cans in May 2016. Entitled 'Common Ground', the First Coat Graffiti Festival is aimed at disadvantaged youth.

Now seen as a legitimate artform, world-class spray paint murals can be viewed at many locations around Toowooma including 3 Bank Lane, 86 Russell Street, Beech Lane and the Station Street carpark.

According to Youth Services, graffiti murals have created an improvement in the attitudes of youth and helps them to experience the fulfillment of contributing to the community. It is believed that the festival discourages graffiti tagging and engages youth.

Suncorp Safer Queensland Community granted $10,000 to First Coat whose co-founder Grace Dewar is director of the Kontraband Studios .

For a two-hour self guided tour of existing murals, maps are available from the website .
