Dr Katja Hogendoorn will be presenting a talk on everything you wanted to know about native bees. She is a local bee researcher who will introduce many of our native bees including the Australian Blue Banded Bee. Bees are important to our bushland ecology and in food production. Find out how we can all look after these surprising and essential pollinators.
Katja is a research entomologist at the Waite School of Agriculture, Food and Wine and has researched native bees and honey bees in horticulture. Diversity is important for the health of our bush and the whole eco system, bees play a vital role in this process.
Our native vegetation has a wealth of flora and fauna that can be under appreciated. It is good to get outside and take time to walk through local parks, explore and take in our beautiful native bushland.
This topic will be useful to gardeners, bushcarers and small landholders and is presented by Landcare and Transition Adelaide Hills. The public lecture will be on Tuesday, March 31st at 7.30pm at the Upper Sturt Soldiers Memorial Hall. Entry by gold coin donation. Further details are available on the Sturt Upper Reaches Landcare Facebook page
