
Combining arts, music, food, lifestyle and nature, the
Festival of the Walks is a 2 week long celebration of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland running from Saturday 29 August to Sunday 13 September.
Bushwalking opportunities range from the easy 20 minute Berganns Walk at Witta to the strenuous Kondalilla FallsWalks and Hinterland Great Walk. These walks are self-guided and the
maps of the routes are available free of charge. For new bushwalkers, the
EPA provides advice on bushwalking in safety and comfort.
If bushwalking sounds a little too energetic, there are pleny of
events and activities to enjoy in the festival towns of Montville, Maleny, Mapleton, Flaxton, Conondale and Kenilworth.
Each weekend during the Festival of the Walks, Mapleton and Montville will showcase artistic talent with demonstrations and talks. The
Maleny Arts Retreat will be open to the public during the Festival of the Walks. View artworks and enjoy a walk around the property which features views of the Glasshouse Mountains.
For the musically minded, Musical Strolls Through Montville offer the opportunity to take part in the spirit of the festival without going bush. On Saturday 5 September, the Tulipwood String Quartet will perform at
Flame Hill Vineyard, Montville; tickets must be pre-purchased for this event (contact Flame Hill Vineyard on 5478 5920).
Also on Saturday the 5th, the
Blackall Range Woodcrafters Guild Inc will be showing off their skills at the Montville Sports Ground.
Fathers' Day, 6 September, sees vintage, veteran and historic vehicles taking part in a display and drive from Montville to Maleny.
To end the Festival of the Walks,
On Mountain View restaurant will host the Festival Fundraiser Dinner on 13 September. Proceeds from the 3 course meal will go to Wildlife Warriors. Tickets can be pre-purchased by contacting the restaurant on 5494 2825.
