There is no greater pleasure than curling up on the sofa with a cup of hot chocolate and immersing yourself in a good story, except, of course, for the pleasure of shopping for literary treats in the first place. Shopping for books, and discovering talented writers and the characters they've created, is one of my favourite weekend indulgences.
And what better way to shop for new and used books than by having them all laid out for you in the one location. Every Saturday, the folks at
Federation Square in Melbourne host the city's biggest weekly book market.
Under the glass ceiling of The Atrium, the market features about 15 of Melbourne's most experienced booksellers and dealers, with occasionally scheduled guest appearances of some of your favourite authors and illustrators. Chick-lit lovers and edge-of-your-seat crime thriller aficionados can unite to trawl the stalls for fabulous titles, flick through some old favourites and discover hidden gems.
No matter what your preferred reading style, you are sure to find something you love amongst the thousands of books. There are some fabulous illustrated childrens books, too, so feel free to bring the kids along!
Keep an eye on their
website for information on scheduled guest author and illustrator appearances.
