A free meal in the middle of Federation Square? Yes, that is correct.

As part of the launch of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival 2012 , the folks at Federation Square are opening their very own pop-up restaurant - Fed Square Favourites .

This special two day event is the result of a two week poll, in which Melburnians were asked to name their favourites foods. Now the results are in and the top 5 dishes will be served up in the pop up restaurant designed by Paul Hyland, owner of the Glasshaus Nursery Design Florist .

The Fed Square Favourites pop up restaurant will open for two days only - on the weekend of Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th of March, 2012 and there will be 8 sessions per a day (there are only 30 seats per a session), held from 10am to 3.45pm.

Each session will focus on one of the top 5 dishes chosen by the Melbourne public; peking duck, tacos, pizza, fish and chips and good old pavlova made the top 5.

You can see the session times on the Federation Square website, located here .

This is expected to be a very popular event, so be prepared to wait in line. Bookings are not required - it is first come, first served and only one session per a person.
