Getting in amongst nature of the cutest kind – with the littlies or without – is a fabulous way to enjoy a relaxing day out.
Featherdale Wildlife Park, within Sydney's metro area in Doonside near Blacktown, has a huge range of wonderful Australian wildlife in a natural bush setting that'll have you thinking you're way out in the country.
There are many interactive experiences on offer, like handfeeding kangaroos, wallabies and emus (with their food, not yours) and getting cuddly with a koala. Amidst an incredible array of colourful birdlife, including penguins and pelicans, you'll also meet reptiles, prickly echidnas, bats, dingoes and those devilish Tasmanian devils (which are really softies at heart).
You can watch them being fed too. Check out the daily feeding program on the
fact sheet, which also contains all the info you need to know, so is handy to take along with you.
School groups can have both a fun and educational experience with
wildlife education classes, though schools that prefer that the animals travel to them can arrange a mobile service via the mobile Wildlife Wanderer program.
Running out of ideas for kid's
birthday parties, which seem to get more inventive as time goes by? Featherdale, with its up-close-and-personal wildlife experiences, might just make the perfect place for singing Happy Birthday amidst all critters cute and furry.
All that fresh air and fun might work up an appetite, so you can grab a bite at the café, or maybe lounge about under a shady tree in the picnic area with BBQ's.
There's lots to see, do and explore at Featherdale, so making a full day of it is the best way to appreciate these divine creatures in our beautiful outdoors.
