The Famous Spiegel Garden will again open next to the iconic Arts Centre in Melbourne. The name of this venture refers to a 'spiegeltent' - a large traveling tent, made of wood, velvet, canvas, mirrors and stained glass, which is used as a stage for various performers. The spiegeltent is a 19th Century concept but continues to be a popular attraction at arts festivals worldwide including the Sydney Festival, Adelaide Festival of Arts, Auckland Festival, Brighton Festival and Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
The spiegeltent which will be located outside The Arts Centre is 'The Famous Spiegeltent,' which was constructed in 1920. The grand and extravagant tent is currently owned and managed by Australian pianist and theatrical producer David Bates, and has been used as a venue for many different types of performers over the years, including musicians, comedians, circus performers and cabaret-style acts.
The Famous Spiegeltent is presenting an exciting program of events from February 7th until April 22, 2012 and with so many events to choose from, we thought we would do the hard work for you and select 7 must see events of the 2012 season.
