With all those wineries, restaurants and breweries, the Swan Valley is an adults-only day trip, right? Wrong! There are plenty of opportunities for a great family day out. The best way to discover a variety of free and low-cost experiences is to follow one of the Family Fun Trails .

The Great Valley Rally is a car rally adventure with ten stops.
Each stop has a checkpoint with a secret message. Kids can have fun finding the landmarks and decoding the puzzle.

They'll also learn quite a bit about the history and natural environment of Western Australia - but you don't have to mention that.

The rally proved so popular that another trail was designed. The Amazing Valley Chase visits ten different destinations and also has puzzles for kids to solve and interesting historical information.

Both trails start and end at the Swan Valley Visitor Centre and take about 3 hours to complete. When you reach the finish line you receive a certificate and a small prize.

You'll need the instruction sheets and the Swan Valley Food & Wine Trail Map. There are available at the Visitor Centre or as downloads from their website. A street directory or GPS may be helpful but isn't required.

Some of the stops on both trails offer opportunities to purchase food and drink, but there are also lovely picnic spots. Why not pack a lunch and top up with some delicious Swan Valley coffee, chocolate or ice cream.
