A huge amount of events, activities and entertainment
The Every Generation Festival is now underway until the end of October.
This festival is inspired by older persons in Australia today and the things they are interested in. It is organised by COTA. Forget the stereotype of older people sitting in their rocking chair. Those days are gone. Never before have older people had so much opportunity to get out and participate in life.
This is a true festival by my definition as it has a wide variety of events and at locations all over Adelaide. There are even some regional events. Most of the activities would suit our senior community members, however there are also many family suitable events. Perhaps you may like to share them with some older or younger people in your family, and make it an outing for every generation.

There are many Come and Try events around town, including some arts and crafts such as lace making, painting, drawing, quilting, crochet, felting and even Japanese beading to name just a few. These are free try out sessions. If you enjoy them, you may like to sign up for a short course. There is also plenty of active Come and Try events such as many styles of dancing, tai chi and martial arts, sports such as croquet, carpet bowls and walking tours. There are so many I cannot list them all here.

Of special interest are some entertainment such as shows and guest lectures. Sophie Thompson is doing an interesting talk on old-fashioned garden wisdom. This will be held at the Tower Arts Centre on October 18 at 6.30 pm. This is a free event but you need to book on 83728255.
One of the biggest events is the annual John Vincent Memorial Big Quiz. This is a day time event at 2pm at the Top Room at the Arkaba Hotel in Fullarton, Doors open at 1pm and tickets are $35 or $30 each if you have a table of 10. Call Carolyn on 0444501 67102.
There is so much happening over the two weeks of the festival. Have a look at the program here or get a copy of the handy booklet at a library or community centre. There is sure to be something on near you.
