Along Euston Road, and just off it, are lots of fine attractions, some famous, some not so.
Take an afternoon out one weekend to spend some time looking around this fascinating area. Here are a few suggestions for what to do.
Start off by admiring the wonderful structure that is
St. Pancras International station. The historic structure, built in the 19th century, was recently renovated at a cost of just under £1 billion.
The work involved the construction of the city's main terminal for Eurostar trains, as well as the building of lots of shops and other amenities. Step inside and take a look around - visit the
sourced market and if you feel like an early afternoon tipple, enjoy a glass of bubbly at its
champagne bar.
From the station, take a stroll up Midland Road, which effectively runs alongside the tracks, until you come to
St. Pancras Old Church.
The church's gardens offer a peaceful break from the busy city, but the real gem here is
The Hardy Tree. Don't leave before checking it out!
Return along Midland Road and look out for the entrance to the
British Library on your right-hand side, which you'll see just before you reach Euston Road.
With 150 million items held by the library, you'll need more than an afternoon to discover all of its delights, so how about exploring one or two of its permanent exhibition rooms instead. Marvel at the original lyrics of A Hard Day's Night, written (or scrawled) in the hand of John Lennon himself. Notebooks full of visionary sketches by Leonardo da Vinci are also on display at the library—if you're lucky some of his genius might even rub off on you.
Walk west along Euston Road for a short distance and turn left into Upper Woburn Place. Keep your eyes peeled for the left turn into
Woburn Walk, a pedestrianised passageway with some small independent cafes located along it. Take a seat outside and grab a quick cuppa.
Return along Upper Woburn Place and turn left into Euston Road. You'll soon come to the extraordinary
Wellcome Collection. Bursting with quirky exhibits, the place describes itself as "a free destination for the incurably curious." The Wellcome Collection is open every day until 6pm, and until 10pm on Thursdays.
