It is an ordinary cattle farm in rural West Australia- but for the life-size replica of a prehistoric monument of one of the wonders-of-the-world.
Situated not far from a paddock of cows and just close enough to the owner's farm house for them to have an interesting view out the window- is a full size
replica of Stonehenge .
The granite monument can be found just outside of the town of Esperance, on the south coast of Western Australia.
The history of this Stonehenge is much less mysterious than the original one in the United Kingdom.
The 137 stones were quarried not far from the farm but had originally been destined for the Margaret River region.
Financial difficulties meant the person who had commissioned the stones could no longer buy them- so an Esperance couple stepped in and kept the project local.
It costs $10 to visit the mammoth stone monument, or $8 for concession and $5 for children.
