Today I was invited to the media screening of the Slow Food Story at the Kino cinema in the city. This will be part of Environmental Film Festival Melbourne 's offering from 4 - 12 September 2014 , this particular film screening as a special event on Monday 8 September at 6.30pm, coupled with a panel discussion and some slow food tasting by Trailer Made , an artisan food van. We were welcomed by Melissa and Chris at the door and handed out the Festival Program. After the introduction and welcome speech from Co-Director Chris Gerbing, we were well on our way to be in awe of a man who started a movement and took the whole world on a journey. This man is Carlo (Carlin) Petrini .

Directed by Stefano Sardo, this charming 73 minute long biopic is dotted with humour and will take you along for the ride and rise of the slow food movement. You will witness how one man can start a whole movement that impacts on the whole world, making you aware that we can all play a part no matter how small, to make things happen. It shows Carlo was always a curious child and very aware of the world around him. Born to Maria and Guisseppe in Bra, Italy on June 22, 1949 he attended Saint Andrea pre-school flanked by one of his close friends Azio Citi (a lot of the narraatives are by Azio) who grew up with him and whom has known him since the early 50's. He relays that Carlos always had grand ideas that would erupt like a volcano. This is a story of a man who was charismatic and had a sense of fun, who knew the value of recycling before it became a catch phrase, who possessed the power of persuasion and engaged everyone whom met him with his warmth and has to be one of a few if any, that got away with patting a Prince.

See for yourself how one idea evolves, gains momentum and becomes unstoppable, gathering speed as it sees a need. Starting an anti-fast food resistance movement, Carlos has said slow and fast food have not got on so well. He made food a creative solution in a time of confusion.

You can read about the 'history of an idea that grew and evolved Right Here! Be sure you see this eye opener of a story of a dreamer and a visionary and join him on his journey. I have to admit to perking up at one woman's pasta recipe. A simple one she says, and all it has is 1kg of flour to 40 (yesssss...40!) eggs. I definitely give this documentary a thumbs up!
