Is this the cutest garden centre in Sydney? I happened upon this quaint and enthralling family-run business quite a while ago, and each time I visit I walk out with a smile on my face. It looks like it would've been the old corner store, a milk-bar or something similar. Now, the quirky comic-type sign signals a fun place to spend an hour or so, plus get everything you could possibly need for your garden and pet requirements. Situated at 56 Coronation Parade, Enfield, in Sydney's inner west, Enfield Produce is doing business like the good old days, and by that I mean :-

Service: - It's so refreshing to be greeted with a smile and a 'how are you, today'. From the first time I visited and every time since, no matter who is at the corner front desk, a happy greeting is guaranteed. There's a great team of staff roaming the aisles just waiting to help in any way they can; the heavy bags of potting mix and pet food is promptly whisked out and put in my car without me even having to ask. Any garden or plant question is answered with knowledge and interest, and any query about my pets receives an educated and sympathetic reply.

Pets: - It's a little out of my way to visit here, but I love that it's a one-stop-shop. I need chicken food today and end up grabbing some summer seedlings too, which otherwise would've been two separate trips. The prices are slightly cheaper than the store closer to where I live too. They stock chickens, ducks, rabbits, fish and a great variety of caged birds, such as canaries, budgies, finches, quails, and doves. Plus, you can pick up everything you need for your pet's needs, such as bird cages, doggy beds and play toys, kennels, hutches, aquarium needs, poultry food and chicken coops, bedding materials like hay and straw, and any medication or grooming needs. While I was picking out a few packets of seeds, a lady came in with questions about her pet snake, and another customer brought his budgie in for some advice.

Garden Needs: - I love my veggie patch and I'm always on the lookout for something a bit different from the rather same-same seedlings that the bigger chain nurseries tend to stock. I've picked up some varieties of chilli that I've never seen before, and the good-sized plants look really healthy. Bulk amounts can be ordered and delivered for a fee, and I see much of their pest control or lawn treatments are organic. I'll grab a grow-your-own mushroom kit and give that a go.

Drop in for a visit even if you don't have pets; you'll feel like you've taken a drive in the country.
