The king of rap is coming down under with probably the most highly anticipated concert of the year!
For a lot of young people, it was a very exciting day when they heard the bleached haired white boy from Detriot was coming to perform in huge arenas down under. Somehow, this crude, rude, money making, music machine draws a huge worldwide following. He definitely has a "way with words" where I grew up with songs like "Kill you", "B**** Please 2" and "Just don't give a f***".
Oh, the memories of being an "angsty teenager" trying to rap along with the lyricist king.
Whether you like him or not, Eminem has been a huge part of pop music, pop culture and the news in general for a good part of 15 years. He has won Grammy's, been amongst plenty of controversy, made a film and dated celebrities; he's the complete modern day entertainer (no sex tape?). His recent album
Recovery has shown that he hasn't lost his touch, with it reaching number 1 on the charts and the single
Love The Way You Lie being repeatedly played on radios, in cars, stores and pretty much anywhere with music playing. After what was a fairly disappointing album beforehand (
Relapse), it has been nostalgic to watch him rise again as young kids are still trying to rap along with the quick spoken lyrics. With the reports of a pending retirement, this may be the one and only opportunity to see him live, especially in Australia. It has been ten years since his last visit so many have delved deep into their pockets to get their hands on a ticket.
The concerts are held in Sydney and Melbourne where supporting him is notable hip-hop star Lil Wayne and probably the most popular Aussie hip-hop crew in the Hilltop Hoods. Tickets of course went like hotcakes where I didn't get one as I thought I was too old and maybe a bit past it, but with a ticket as a surprise birthday present, I was giddy like a schoolgirl.
The shows are said to be a six hour bonanza of hip hop where my only hope as a fan is that he plays some of his older tunes from 'The Slim Shady LP' and 'The Marshall Mathers LP'. Either way, these stadium-sized concerts are going to be massive, with so much pending excitement amongst fans for the upcoming shows. Girls will scream, boys will yell "yeah" in as deep a voice as they can and everyone will stand, dance and try to rap along with the lyrics.
This concert is sure to be memorable and will no doubt be a lot of fun. Can't wait!
