The official line is that Elvis Presley died in August, 1977. However, there are some people out there who believe the rock 'n' roll singer faked his own death in order to escape the pressures of being constantly in the spotlight.
Whatever the truth—and the likely truth is that he is actually dead—the legend lives on through the performances of countless Elvis impersonators, as well as numerous
Elvis conventions that take place all over the world.
His live performances were legendary, especially the epic shows that took place in Las Vegas in the early 70s. Fans would be whipped up into a frenzy by his sheer presence, and when that distinctive voice let rip, well, many people simply embarrassed themselves.
While the O2 Arena in Greenwich is hardly the Las Vegas Strip, it is nevertheless a massive venue and therefore the perfect stage for
Elvis Presley in Concert, taking place on March 16th.
Best of all, Elvis himself will be there. And by that, I don't mean there'll be some
shoddy impersonator in a dodgy wig with a voice as out of tune as a beaten-up piano. By "will be there", I mean the phenomenal performer will be projected onto huge state-of-the-art movie screens that will bring one of the greatest singers of the 20th century back to life (kind of).
To make the night that extra bit special, the live band will be made up of the original members of Elvis's TCB Band (which, by the way, stands for Taking Care of Business), and they'll be performing alongside backing singers and a full orchestra.
Tickets for the event
aren't cheap, but it's a big show which should satisfy even the most die-hard of Elvis fans, with the two hour extravaganza promising to play a great many of his hits.
The Elvis footage projected at the show is taken from two of his concert movies,
Elvis, That's The Way It Is (1970) and
Elvis on Tour (1972). And yes, the lead vocalist for all the songs will be Elvis Presley himself.
