I've been freelancing for over 4 years in PR and journalism, I'm now based in Liverpool, England. You can see a body of my work on Yelp.com and on Liverpool.com. When not reviewing or interviewing I write comedy for TV.

In terms of value for money, this is one of the best hostels in Perth. It has rates from as cheap as $23 per night for a ten share dorm, or a discounted rate of $147 per week. The staff are excellent, the rooms are spacious, and the atmosphere is fantastic and party driven.
Located bang in the centre of Northbridge, just a 5 minute stroll from Perth central train station, this would be useful to those on a working holiday visa as it's easily accessible on all four of the Perth train lines for commuting back and forth.
Another benefit of this hostel is that it's licensed for bringing your own alcohol in. This is a godsend to skint backpackers as they often have to pay hostel bar prices, which albeit are often discounted, they're never as cheap as the bottle shop.
Long termers get discounted rates if the room rates increase. This is an incentive to those who stay for a few months. Long termers give the hostel a family atmosphere and were welcoming and helpful when I stayed there. There is internet access and WiFi available and there is often a party night with a particular theme on the weekends.
