No matter what sport you play, and no matter how good you are at it, it's a fact of life that everybody has to start at a grassroots level before they can achieve greatness. Our most elite players usually came from humble sporting beginnings- before spruiking #8206 ;">Bonds underwear, retired Australian tennis player Pat Rafter learned to play tennis in the small Queensland town of Mt Isa. Our most recent tennis star- Nick Kyrgios (who knocked Rafael Nadal out of Wimbledon in 2014), began his tennis career in the nation's capital- Canberra, while a host of other stars made their beginnings in the small sports clubs and associations of Australia's suburban towns.



For people on the Bellarine Peninsula in Victoria, there are plenty of places where they can begin their sporting careers, but for those interested in tennis, they need look no further than the Drysdale Tennis Club . On Sunday 26 October, the club will be holding an Open Day, where visitors who are interested in the sport can have a go and see what it's like. As well as the chance to try out the ball machine and participate in a Hit-the-Target contest, there will also be a machine on hand to measure the speed of your fastest and best serves. From 10.30am until 11.15am there will be a Hot Shots session running, where primary-aged children will be able to sample the sport, and from 11.30am-12.15pm, adults and teenagers will be able to participate in a Cardio Tennis session. There will also be a free sausage sizzle, raffles, and spot prize giveaways every 15 minutes. Past members of the club are invited to visit the club rooms, where they will be able to meet up with old friends and reminisce over photographs taken throughout the years.



Entry to the Open Day is free and, if you've ever entertained the notion of becoming a tennis star, this may be just the push you need.
