Most kids love to dress up and pretend they are someone else for the day – a superhero, a fairy, or perhaps a wild animal. On Friday September 20th everyone (even adults) will have an excuse to play pretend and dress up to help
Playgroup Queensland celebrate
Dress up Day . This annual event helps raise much needed funds for the Playgroup Children's Foundation to help support families across the state to equitably access a quality playgroup program.
While there are many events being organised by local playgroups across the state, the biggest event will be a free family friendly community spectacular hosted at 7th Brigade Park Chermside, from 9am to 12pm. This park is well known for its facilities including the play area
Kidspace, but on Dress up Day it will be almost unrecognisable as all of the action will be happening in the open green area. A whole host of free interactive activities, workshops and entertainment will be on offer to parents and kids. Plus with everyone encouraged to dress up in return for a gold coin donation, you could be lucky enough to mingle with a princess, a pirate or a puppy.
Be sure to grab your
treasure map on arrival marking the way to eight different activity areas including music, creative, physical, sensory and water play. Get tumbling with Flipside Circus activities, score a goal thanks to Little Kickers, dance to your own beat at the Sing and Grow tent, or develop a green thumb with the Earthy Little Fingers team. Toddler favourites including face painting, pony rides and messy play activities will also feature at the event. All activities will be facilitated by Playgroup Queensland staff, volunteers and community partners so kids and parents can simply focus on having fun together.
For little legs (and perhaps big legs) that grow tired of wandering through the park, the main stage will be the ideal place to relax while also taking in the entertainment. Musical acts, children's performers and guest speakers will be taking centre stage throughout the morning. Some special guests will be making an appearance including clowns Peebo and Dagwood, and Lightning McQueen, although it will be interesting to see what they chose as their Dress up Day outfits.
Dress up day isn't the only event to be celebrated during the morning - Playgroup Queensland will also be celebrating their 40th birthday. Take a look at the images, memorabilia and milestones that Playgroup Queensland has achieved over the past 40 years. Join in the festivities of the cutting of their birthday cake and a special birthday song on stage. The full program of stage events can be found
here .
Food and drinks will be available – a sausage sizzle for hungry little critters, while a coffee van will be able to give parents that morning pick-me-up. Why not take advantage of the green open space though and pack a picnic to share under the shady trees?
If you can't get along to the event but would like to be involved in a local playgroup event, check out the Playgroup Queensland
website . You might even like to consider hosting a dress up day at your workplace or with a group of friends to help show your support. Further details about fundraising and donations can also be found on the
website .
Families with under-fives won't want to miss this event. It's not very often that a free morning jam packed full of activities and fun is on offer, all while getting to dress up and supporting a worthy cause. The only question now is what will you wear on Dress up Day?
