The Art Gallery of NSW will be getting into the spirit of the Chinese New Year with its upcoming Dragon Exhibition. Celebrating the 2012 Year of the Dragon, the exhibition will showcase artworks that feature the revered dragon symbol.

There will be various media on display including paintings, textiles, bronzes, porcelains and calligraphy. The exhibition hopes to examine this powerful symbol's various meanings in Chinese art, politics and culture.

In Chinese mythology the dragon is a symbol of power, strength and good luck. The exhibition will also show pieces from Japan to illustrate how the dragon has been adopted by other countries.

Admission is free and the exhibition will run from the 18th of January 2012 until the 6th of May 2012.
