Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School

Dr Sketchy's is the brainchild of some New York hipster, and had become a global phenomenon. The Sydney edition takes place every Monday (life drawing for the more serious artists amongst us) or every second Tuesday (for the less talented, such as myself) at Sydney's Arthouse Hotel, and is a whole bunch of fun.

Two models pose for the incredibly varied crowd - think young and old, corporate and cool, talented and definitely not - in two, five and ten minute increments. The models are dressed in a pin-up theme, and struck me with their incredible talent for staying still. Doesn't sound too tricky, but I imagine holding a pose with your legs around your head for ten minutes isn't that easy!

Even if you lack artistic talent, it's still a great way to spend an evening - the MC is gregarious and funny, the crowd warm and receptive and the drinks cheap and plentiful. At $20 (including a drink and a guaranteed seat), it's a cheap and cheerful way to spend an evening
