Based on the all-time favourite book by Dr. Seuss, The Cat in the Hat is now a magically witty children's play produced by the National Theatre of Great Britain.

And the sun is not sunny.
But we can have
Lots of good fun that is funny."

Following a sold out season at the Sydney Opera House, The Cat in the Hat comes to Melbourne as a special school holiday treat for the entire family.

My son and I went to see one of the two successful performances showing at the Whitehorse Centre in Nunawading during the September school holidays.

Those that have read Dr. Seuss' classic tale The Cat in the Hat will not be disappointed by the book's 40 minute stage adaptation. With an all Australian cast captivating audiences young and old into a world filled with riddle, rhyme and catty-craziness.

In between the mischievous Cat's riddles, there are songs, tricks, jokes and dance. With great performances by actors playing The Cat in the Hat, Sally and her Brother, the Fish and a hilarious Thing One and Thing Two leaving kids giggling in their seats throughout the show.

For those unaware of Dr Seuss' classic story, the Cat, sporting a tall striped red and white hat and bow-tie, brings with him an afternoon of chaos and wacky tricks to an unsuspecting brother and sister, who were otherwise stuck indoors on a boring rainy day. The Cat rhymes his way through balancing tricks and acrobatics, all the while an outspoken cautious pet Fish voices his concern to the children left at home while their mother is out for the day.

The Cat introduces two more comical characters Thing One and Thing Two, who are set loose on the house and all sorts of destruction starts to take place.

What will happen to the mess and damage left behind by the Cat and his zany companions before the children's Mother comes home? All will be revealed by the end of the show.

This is an excellent performance for the entire family, just the right length for younger children, suitable for 3yrs plus, although equally as entertaining to older kids and adults.

Subsequent performances will be showing at The Clockhouse Centre , Moonee Ponds on 26th and 27th September, and The Arts Centre , Melbourne during the summer school holidays between 2nd - 9th January 2014

The Cat in the Hat promises to be a purr-fect day out for both children and parents alike.
