Once upon a time, the Australian government, as part of a 'populate or perish' policy, actively encouraged Brits to go and live down under. For just £10, anyone interested could board a ferry and embark on the longest boat journey of their life, leaving behind the cold dark winters and overcrowded cities of post-war Britain.

For those with the right skills, qualifications, and most importantly, attitude, Australia and New Zealand offer a new beginning. While both countries have their own distinct cultures, the common language and shared history mean that the lifestyle change need not be such a shock to the system. I mean, the Antipodeans love pies and beer like the next man, and Corrie's on the box too, though it may be a year or two behind...
At the Business Design Centre in Islington on 18th and 19th September, the
Down Under Live event rolls into town, providing anyone curious about life down under with all the information they'll need to make an informed decision about whether upping sticks and heading south –
far south - is for them.
There'll be experts on hand to answer all kinds of questions, from how to sort visas to the best way of shifting your life's possessions over to the other side of the world efficiently and cheaply.
A recruitment team will also be there, offering advice on how best to find work, as well as giving information on what kind of skills are currently in short supply.
If you're not quite ready for a permanent move but would like to visit Australia and New Zealand to get a feel for the countries, the Travel Zone will be there to help you sort out a backpacking expedition or something a little more extravagant. Information on working holiday will also be available.
Lots of exhibitors will be attending the event such as BUNAC, Immigration New Zealand, Live Downunder, Migrate2oz, Study Adelaide, and Visa Go Emigration. TransFur International Pet Relocation will even be there, in case you have a mutt or a moggy that'll be making the long journey with you.
