Dolphin Day is a free annual event organised jointly by the Department of Environment,Water and Natural Resources (DEWNR) and the Adelaide Dolphin Sanctuary Action Group (ADSAG), assisted by several other agencies and community groups.
Held at historic Port Adelaide, Dolphin Day aims to increase public interest and awareness in Adelaide's dolphin sanctuary, where dolphins are monitored and cared for by volunteers from the ADSAG. It's a family event with lots of free things and fun activities for kids.
There will be 200 free tickets available for a cruise on the Dolphin Explorer, and 100 free tickets for Port Princess Cruises on the day. Each cruise will be scheduled for both morning and afternoon, but you will need to be early to pick up these freebies as tickets will fly away faster than a frightened flock of seagulls.
Please note that there is a maximum of 2 free tickets per family.
Other fun things to do include a dolphin trail, face painting and activities for kids. Explore the free Life in the Sanctuary photographic exhibition at the Black Diamond Gallery, and watch an interactive theatre play by the Adelaide University Theatre Guild.
On a more serious side, educational talks about dolphins will be held at the Port Adelaide Town Hall throughout the day including the following topics:
Coastal and marine conservation in the Adelaide Dolphin Sanctuary
The Bottlenose dolphin in Adelaide metropolitan waters
The dolphin mortality event in South Australia 2013
Little Island Big Ocean
Feral or in peril?

After you have enjoyed your dolphin encounter, there are plenty of other things to do in historic Port Adelaide - take a
heritage pub walk , explore historic shipwrecks at
Mutton Cove and
Jervois Basin , or enjoy fun activities for kids at
Semaphore amusement park .
