It is not easy to part with your furry friend if you are a frequent traveller; even if you are going away once a year or more frequently. It can also be a challenge to ascertain who you can really trust to housesit for you and look after you dog/s at the same time: to ensure they are well fed, groomed and also most importantly - they are receiving the right exercise: they are being taken out for walks and so on also in order to avoid boredom and mischief.

There are a few credible dog boarding kennels in Melbourne, although this establishment is a great alternative; a source that a friend of mine is currently using as she is overseas getting married right now, and that source is Top Dog Minders where your dog/s actually stay with a loving and fully trained dog minder; where yes your dog is not locked up, and their diet is still catered to, and you are allowed to bring your dogs favourite toys and so on to this establishment.

Or to drop off your dog/s at Melbourne Airport at Tullamarine before checking in for your relevant flight; to an establishment that is also luxury for your pet; a pet hotel recommended by over 119 vets with over 30 years experience, is the Hanrob Pet Hotel with a selection of playtime options, and an aromatherapy bath enjoyed by each dog while you are away for business and/or leisure.

And Port Melbourne came to mind (maybe because one will soon be moving there with a dog) is the Pets Hotel for more short terms stays with a doggy spa and obedience lessons so your pooch/es continue to be well behaved when they are back in your own backyard.

I left my dog at the pets hotel in port Melbourne over xmas and nye 2011. Very unhappy with this place. When asked to look at the area my dog would be boarding in the lady took me and my partner inside and the owner was there abusing the staff myself and my partner as he did not have insurance for us to be in the area.If i was not departing overseas that next morning i would never have left my dog there. I was told if i do not pick up my dog before 10am i would be charged for an extra day. I rushed from the airport to be at the hotel by 10am and i waited 1 hour to colect my dog as he was not ready to go. The staff also told me that there had been an outbreak in kennel cough and they had planned to take him to the very that day. The another staff member told me they had gotten confused and my dog was not the dog that had kennel cough. however i woken up the next morning and my dog is very sick with kennel cough and nasal drizzle. he is not happy at all. The staff were very apologetic and refunded myself 80 of the 900 i had paid however i will never recommend this accommodation for anyones pet.

So sorry to hear about this experience that you, your partner and your dog had to go through recently. With a product, things are generally standard; such as when you order a burger at McDonald's - the final outcome is generally the same; the same burger every time; however with a service (any service for that matter) the outcome differs and it was once again unfortunate in your case. Thank you for passing this information on about this establishment. All elements of this service was totally unacceptable. Any dog owner seeing this would definitely not go to this Port Melbourne establishment. All the best
