Event:

As adults, we can often rely on our intellectual and rational sides to solve issues, but art therapy is saying "no, that's not always the best way". We actually want to tap into our imagination and our intuition and our bodily experience for healing.

Art Therapy is an established mental health profession that uses artistic mediums to improve or restore mental, emotional, and physical health.

This workshop provides an introduction to Art Therapy including:

  • What Art Therapy is

  • How Art Therapy can be used

  • An opportunity to experience Art Therapy for yourself

This workshop is a great opportunity for:

  • Individuals who are interested in becoming Art Therapists

  • Artists of various modalities that want to explore the therapeutic side of art

  • Counsellors and other professionals wanting professional development

In this workshop participants will be given the opportunity to experience 'Art Therapy', utilising a diverse range of art materials and processes. Through individual, paired and group work, participants will have the opportunity to create, reflect and explore personal meaning, and to experience the potential of art-making as a tool for personal growth, connectedness and self-awareness.

Through an experiential focus on their own art-making, participants will gain a basic understanding of how art can enrich and facilitate working with others.

People already active in human service work in the community may also find the workshop supports thinking about their practice from a new orientation.

Art Therapy is about understanding, not appreciation, so being 'good at art' is not important.
