Calling all those with a green thumb, Australia's largest community tree planting event is back in 2016! On Sunday the 31st of July, nature lovers are invited too join in National Tree Day which is happening at Jubilee Park in Glebe. To celebrate the 21st anniversary of Planet Ark's mission, which has seen well over 31 million trees, plants and edibles added to communities; a day of fun filled and free activities has been planned for all volunteers to enjoy. A special mention goes to The City of Sydney, Planet Ark & Toyota Australia for making this day possible.
It is a short but jam-packed day beginning at 10am on Northcote Road, Glebe with the day ending at 1pm. The goal for the day is to plant 2,000 seedlings and volunteers are rewarded with a promise of cute giveaways such as your own plant, "espresso-to-grow" cup or a plantable ice-cream cone!
It should be a great day out for the family with a petting zoo of native animals for the kids, tree-mendous yoga sessions for families, nature arts and crafts and face painting (kids and big kids will love it!). In the form of star entertainment there will be special appearances and the chance of a photo-op with TV sensation 'dirtgirl' & Toyota's tree people. Also a dance performance by indigenous group 'Yamma Boys' will definitely not disappoint. There will also be a sausage sizzle or veggie patties to keep you fuelled for the day.
All that you need to do to become a part of this fantastic day is go through
Planet Ark's website or by contacting your local participating Toyota dealership. After that, all you need to bring is yourself; equipment for planting, drinking water, snacks, refreshments and as mentioned above a BBQ are all provided to you on the day.
